Road closures for today’s Ceremonial Opening of Parliament
KINGSTON , Jamaica — The public is being advised that in order to facilitate today’s Ceremonial Opening of Parliament, several roads in the Corporate Area will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic, beginning at 8:00 am.
These include:
1. Duke Street between Sutton Street and North Street
2. Beeston Street between King Street and Hanover Street
3. Charles Street between Hanover Street and King Street
The police advised that Mark Lane will be operated as one way, south to north, between Beeston Street and Charles Street.
Meanwhile, pedestrian traffic will also be restricted in the area of Gordon House (Duke Street between Beeston Street and Charles Street) until the end of the ceremony.
In addition, parking will be restricted in the following areas from 7:00 am until the end of the ceremony:
1. South Heroes Circle between East and West Heroes Circle
2. Duke Street between Manchester Square and East Queen Street
3. Beeston Street between Hanover Street and King Street
4. John’s Lane between North Street and Georges Lane (except for authorized vehicles)
5. Mark Lane between Beeston Street and Charles Street
6. Charles Street between Hanover Street and King Street
7. East Street between South Heroes Circle and East Queen Street
8. East Queen Street between Hanover Street and East Parade
9. Georges Lane between Duke Street and Johns Lane (except for authorized vehicles)
Persons who use Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses are also being advised that some routes in the downtown Kingston area may be impacted because of the road closures. Where this happens, the buses will be diverted to alternative roads.
The police said traffic personnel will be deployed along the roadways and members of the public are being advised to obey their instructions.
