Rare winner for jockey Delroy Beharie
You see him at the racetrack regularly but he has not been converting his time at the track to winners.
Jockey Delroy Beharie rode his first winner for some time when he piloted the Wayne Parchment-trained Beltane to a ¾ length victory in a Restricted Allowance event at Caymanas Park on Wednesday over six and a half furlongs (1,300 metres).
Beharie broke Beltane with the pace and when the field headed towards the last four furlongs (800m) Son of Spartacus and Beltane hooked up in a speed duel and began to separate themselves from the rest of their rivals.
Beltane surged to the lead at the top of the lane and just did enough for the victory over Astro (Daniel Thompson) and Boss Izzy (Tevin Foster). The winning time for the 6 ½ furlong event for native-bred five-year-olds and up non-winners of two was 1:25.1.
Also Correct wins again
Eight-year-old bay mare Also Correct continued to enjoy good form as she notched her second consecutive win in a $180,000 claiming race over seven furlongs (1,400m).
Ridden by apprentice Christopher Mamdeen, Also Correct made one move to win by 5 ½ lengths in a time of 1:31.1.
Also Correct broke well and assumed the lead early but was immediately troubled by Kunama (Kiaman McGregor). The two opened up a gap on Party Princess (Shane Ellis) at the half mile.
Coming into the lane with a good-enough lead, Also Correct held her form through and won quite well in the end. Party Princess ran on for second place with Bigman Union (Matthew Bennett) third.
Cerasini finally gets home
After six consecutive second-place finishes and one-third place finish in her last seven races, four-year-old bay filly Cerasini ( Coded Warning – Doctor Sparks) finally got her head in front over the five furlong (1,000m) straight course.
Ridden by Dane Nelson, Cerasini, as usual, was slowly out of the starting gates and raced far off the pace as first-time runner Kappone (Romario Smith) blazed the early trail.
When it all seemed over with a furlong to go with Kappone looking all over the winner, Nelson produced his mount on the outside and Cerasini got up in time to beat Kappone by ½ length in a time of 1:01.4. Sephlyn (Devon A Thomas) was third.
