MONEY MAGNET – A CINCH!
TOMORROW’S feature race at Caymanas Park honours the former grand dame of local racing, trainer, owner and breeder, Eileen Cliggott and fittingly the race is for Grade 1 horses.
This year’s Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy has attracted a small field of only five runners who are set to compete over six and a half furlongs or 1,300 metres.
Most eyes, for sure, are going to be placed on the Richard Azan-trained Money Magnet, who is seeking her second win from two starts this racing year.
The Supreme Racing Guide assesses the chances of the five starters in the Eileen Cliggott in their post-position order.
HOUDINI’S MAGIC: (7.drb. h – Performing Magic – Milestone) – Now at seven years, Houdini’s Magic is racing for the second time this season. Comes up once again against Money Magnet who dismissed him on January 19, while venturing down the five-straight course. The increase in distance favours Houdini’s Magic but that’s about it as he is obviously using this race for the longer distances to come.
PERFECT NEIGHBOUR: (9.drb. g – Natural Selection – Desperatehousewife – Despite his nine years, Perfect Neighbour is still tough and resilient as ever, but he has never been a sprinter and that won’t change in this race. Perfect Neighbour is preparing for other races to come — this is a prep run.
MONEY MAGNET: (5.ch. m – Nuclear Wayne – Jazzy Jet) – This mare is now seeking the double after beating Chace The Great and Peking Cruz over the five straight on January 19. This is a race which is tailor made for Money Money despite giving away lumps of weight to her four rivals, but she is the class in this one. Money Magnet has never been better, she is fit and ready and is going to be very hard to deny as she aims to carry home her second trophy for the year. A cinch!
EXHILARATE: (4.ch f – Blue Pepsi Lodge – Pure Joy) – Raced on Wednesday last when finishing fifth behind Campesino, Peking Cruz and Nuclear Flight racing over five furlongs (1000 metres) straight. Exhilarate is trying to find herself in this top grade but it is going to take time to catch the pace among the best on offer and further against these she might find six and a half furlongs a bit taxing. Exhilarate’s learning curve continues tomorrow in the Eileen Cliggott.
PEKING CRUZ: (4.ch. g – Traditional – Patty Girl) – Had a tough race just three days ago, when he was hindered by Nuclear Flight in a five straight sprint fest which led to Peking Cruz being promoted from third to second position. Reports are that Peking Cruz did not receive any injuries and is still ready to give an A-1 effort in this trophy race. While he has a chance of winning, beating his stablemate Money Magnet is not on the cards tomorrow. Look out for an Azan exacta – Money Mganet – Peking Cruz.
