Ganja bust in Clarendon, Portland
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Several plastic bags containing a total of 500 pounds of ganja were yesterday seized on separate occasions in Clarendon and Portland.
The police said two men were nabbed in connection with the first seizure, which happened on the Toll Gate main road in Clarendon about 1:00 pm.
According to the constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), a team of officers from the Lacovia Police Station were conducting an operation when they signalled a motorist to stop.
He complied and his vehicle was searched, during which five black plastic bags containing ganja were reportedly found.
The motorist and his passenger, whose identities have not been disclosed, were subsequently arrested.
CCU said the quantity of drug weighed approximately 200 pounds and is estimated to be worth $800,000 on the street.
The bust was made a little over two hours before the discovery of another 300 pounds of ganja in White River district in Portland, where a team of investigators found six garbage bags containing ganja under a tree on an open lot.
CCU said the officers were processing a crime scene about 3:20 pm when they noticed the bags. The lawmen said that quantity of ganja has an estimated street value of $1,200,000.
No one was arrested in relation to this seizure.
