Porus High teacher, student to face court on assault charges
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A teacher and student of the Porus High School in Manchester are both set to face the court later this month on assault charges in relation to an incident that took place at the institution on Tuesday.
Police reports are that the male teacher was assaulted by a 14-year-old male student.
The unnamed teacher, in retaliation, reportedly went into the Porus community for men to assist him in handling the matter with the student.
The Manchester police said the security guard at the school was injured when he refused them entry to the compound.
The teacher was subsequently arrested and charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
He is make an appearance in the Manchester Parish Court on February 20.
Meanwhile, the student, who cannot be named because he is a minor, was charged with assault and malicious destruction of property in relation to the incident with the teacher.
He is to appear before the court on February 25.
The security guard was reportedly treated in hospital and released.
