Dining With A View
Grand-A-View Restaurant & Event Place is the latest offering to the social and gastronomy scene in western Jamaica, boasting a fabulous two-tiered fine dining restaurant with comfortable furnishings, state-of-the-art conference room, amphitheatre, four bars, two terraces, and an impressive view of the Caribbean Sea.
The menu is inspired from different segments: Jamaican, Neo-American and European, with a touch of Asian influences as well. The culinary voyage is helmed by well-known Executive Chef Dennis Mcintosh, a two-time winner of the Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards Chef of the Year title.
Opened since last December, the facility offers both formal and casual dining spaces, and features a Friday Evening Lyme and Sunday Brunch. Plans are in place to offer more experiences and theme nights, especially on the entertainment side.
“We are offering a five-star dining and culinary experience. This is something that we are extremely happy about as we are looking for not just overseas clients but for locals to also come out and experience this. The facility is unique; we are raising the bar when it comes to offerings and service; the response has been tremendously positive and only expected to go up as we put in the other planned phases in our development programme,” Hayden Marks, operations manager, explained.
Thursday Food spoke with Chef McIntosh about the new venture and how he intends to put his stamp on the entity.
“This a great opportunity and challenge. This restaurant was built with high standards both in the construction and the expectations of our guests. We will have to wow them with our service, food and this magnificent view and, this being an independent property, I’m able to create what we as Jamaicans need, and what an international guest with discerning taste would feel very comfortable in,” said McIntosh.
Menu offerings include curried goat, grilled beef tenderloin, herb-crusted rack of lamb, pepper-crusted tuna loin, pan-seared snapper fillet, grilled lobster, coconut shrimp, escoveitch smoked marlin and grilled chicken breast.
“The cuisine is quintessentially Jamaican. I’m forever promoting Jamaican products while maintaining international standards in the presentation. My approach is very hands-on; it’s important to train and develop the team to maintain the standards that you want carried out consistently. I’m competitive and I’m ensuring that Jamaican culinary art is recognised. For me personally, this entity represents a chance to do that. To make use of the local talent and expose that to locals and visitors alike and ultimately, over the long haul, the quality of service delivery and food will speak for itself,” McIntosh concluded.
