Boxing fitness trainer killed
Boxing fitness trainer Christopher Brown was killed yesterday morning at his Fit Farm Fitness Club on Upper Braemar Avenue in St Andrew.
Brown, 52, who became popular while helping Sakima Mullings to win the Wray and Nephew Contender title twice in 2014 and 2017, was shot multiple times.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force information arm, the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), said Brown who resided at Belmar Place in Kingston 19 was shot and killed by unknown assailants.
“Reports from the New Kingston police said that about 5:45 am citizens heard explosions and summoned the police and upon their arrival Mr Brown was seen lying on his back with gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead,” said the CCU.
Jamaica Boxing Board general secretary Leroy Brown told the Jamaica Observer it was a sad day for boxing.
“We are really shocked at the news. I am surprised and shocked, and I am sure it is a loss to the boxers whom he was associated with. We would like to express condolences to the family for their loss,” said Brown.
“He was involved mostly as a fitness coach and worked with different boxers. The boxer that he was more closely assigned to was Sakima Mullings and he was his fitness coach.
“I think he did a very good job with Sakima and the other boxers he was associated with, and that was his greatest contribution to the sport, really keeping boxers fit,” said Brown.
