SO2&3 — Sunday, February 10
C ount Camillo Negroni, a member of Florence’s cultural elite, was known for being adventurous, eccentric and charming. In 1919 the Count asked the bartender at Caffè Casoni to strengthen his favourite cocktail — the Americano. The bartender opted to use English Gin so that the cocktail (made from Campari and sweet vermouth) would not lose its “beautiful red colour”, and garnished it with orange, instead of lemon, to distinguish it from its predecessor. And so the Negroni was born.
For over a decade Campari has celebrated the new year by unveiling the Campari Red Diaries. Each year, a lithe gorgeous vixen (and sometimes a debonaire gent) stars in the campaign that includes a short film and, for the first 15 years, a calendar. To celebrate the centenary of the Negroni, SO2 presents a retrospective of our favourite Campari Red Diaries stars.
