TAJ conducting property tax collection drive in St Catherine
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says it will be conducting a property tax collections drive in the parish of St Catherine from February 11 to 22.
The tax collection activity will focus on the most delinquent communities in and around Spanish Town, Old Harbour and Linstead, the TAJ said in a release.
The collections drive is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Local Government and TAJ, where their personnel will be serving final notices, summonses, and issuing warrants of disobedience ordered by the courts.
The initiative is planned for the following communities:
Spanish Town: Sydenham Villa, Willowdene, Villa Nova & it’s environs and Union Estate Old Harbour: New Harbour Village1, Claremont Heights Linstead: Mickleton Meadows.
According to the TAJ, this collection activity forms part of a number of initiatives designed to improve property tax collections throughout the island.
The Montego Bay Revenue Service Centre conducted a similar activity in December 2018, which yielded approximately $28 million or 84 per cent of the target for that exercise, the TAJ said.
The tax authority is encouraging people to pay outstanding property taxes in order to avoid enforcement actions being taken against them.
