Felch and Tovi Soul to turn the table
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Though they were raised in different settings, brothers Fabion and Tovel McLean share a passion for singing that manifested last year in Will You be There, a seven-song EP produced by In-Ex Records out of the United Kingdom.
Released on Valentine’s Day, it set the pace for Table Turn, produced by the same company. That song was released in December.
Fabion, known as Felch, grew up in Linstead, St Catherine. Toval, known professionally as Tovi Soul, was raised in east Kingston.
Those diverse backgrounds, Felch explained, has never affected their chemistry.
“It’s great working together as siblings seeing that we’ve been doing this since we were kids…doing cover versions and singing at church. So, we do have a vocal gel and understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” he said.
Table Turn bears the dancehall and pop sounds that inspired the McLean brothers. It looks at the importance of genuine friendship in achieving life’s goals.
“We have the same music tastes on a level but in some ways different. I have more of a mixed vibe, seeing that I do more of the production side I listen a wide range of music. Tovi has a more soulful vibe,” said Felch.
Older of the duo by two years, Felch was part of the harmony trio, D’Lynx, which provided backing vocals for a number of dancehall artistes such as Kiprich, Christopher Martin and Cecile. Tovi Soul has also done his share of harmony work, and recently released the solo song I Wanna Be, also produced by In-Ex Records.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, Felch and Tovi Soul are still promoting Will You be There which contains the ballads, Never Leave, I Wanna Be and the title song.
