Kanabis on a high
The third Armageddon Sound Clash took place at National Park in Georgetown, Guyana, on January 26. Promoted annually by Empire Media Inc, it was won by Notorious International with DJ Magnum from Guyana.
Six ‘sounds’ participated in the event. The others were: Kanabis from Antigua; Afrikan Vybz (Guyana/USA); Slingerz Family (Guyana); Exodus Nuclear (Guyana/Jamaica); and Trinity Sound (Guyana/USA).
Notorious International was awarded Guyanese $1 million.
The clash comprised five rounds:
Round 1: Introduction
Anything goes, Dubplates and 45s, no eliminations
Round 2: Unleash the Beast
Anything goes, Dubplates and 45s, one elimination
Round 3: Anything goes, Dubplates and 45s, two eliminations
Round 4: Challenge Round — one elimination
Round 5: (first to win five songs or rounds): Dub for Dub, Dubplates
Though his team placed third, Deon “Stingaz” Dunning of Kanabis, said the trip to Guyana was worthwhile.
“It was our first time in Guyana and the vibes was really great. Even though we are not from there, we got a lot of support and the people welcomed us. We also got great response at parties that we played at before the clash,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Kanabis was established in 2000. It has won 15 Caribbean sound clashes.
The other members of Kanabis are Mario “Progress Boss” Casmir, Laurance “Jelly Belly” Mason, Courtney “Jahny Gwapp” Timothy, Sadique “DJ Ladda” Jarvis, and Glenn “Madd Dawg” Francis.
