The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) is calling on the Government of Jamaica to seriously consider the overdue implementation of flexi-work hours/week in a bid to reduce the heavy traffic flow on the nation’s roads.

The heavy traffic across major townships islandwide is largely due to the increased movement of the labour force, goods and services within the first and last three hours of the workday.

This not only causes a reduction in the man-hours across productive sectors, but contributes to several motor vehicle crashes and fatalities on our roads as motorists increase their speed when there is a break in the traffic build-up or drive less than carefully in order to catch up time spent in traffic.

The implementation of flexi-hour/week must be looked at with a matter of urgency and as a tool to improve productivity.

The heavy use of the Mandeville highway, which gave rise to several accidents during its construction, can be averted with flexi-hours.
