SO Readers – Damian Duncan
Casey Gerald: There Will Be No Miracles Here
This is a memoir about a gay black kid who grows up as the son of a star quarterback and ends up going to Yale and Harvard. The message is stay weird and do your best.
Tara Westover: Educated
I haven’t started this yet, but it’s about a woman who was sheltered and home-schooled her entire life, who decided to go to college. There is a scene in the book where she raises her hand and asks “What’s the holocaust?”
Richard Branson: Finding my Virginity
Self-explanatory. I think he is getting more reflective with age so it’s a little less bluster than his previous books.
Ray Dalio: Principles
Written by one of the richest men in the world, it is his framework and formula for how to be successful by accepting what is true and what you can do about it.
Tiffany Hadish: The Last Black Unicorn
Heard this is a really funny, feel-good, easy read.
Trevor Noah: Born A Crime
Love reading about South Africa. The country has such a rich history that is largely unexplored because of shame.
Peter Thiel: Zero to One
Very successful silicon valley investor talking about his investing framework and what differentiates the companies that have breakout success.
Phil Knight: Shoe Dog
Memoir by the founder of Nike about what led to the founding of the company and its early days. This is a great story of how to follow your passion.
Jen Sincero: You are a Badass
Entertaining and light-hearted how-to book about realising your best self, while recognising what you can’t change.
Naomi Alderman: The Power
I am not a big fan of novels but couldn’t put this one down. It’s about women discovering that they have the power to control electricity and even to harm others with it. There are a whole bunch of social ramifications that parallel with historic customs like genital mutilation, except in the book, men are being subjugated.
