Rusea’s High to host COCAA First Chance meet
LUCEA, Hanover — The County of Cornwall Athletics Association’s (COCAA) First Chance meet is to be hosted by Rusea’s High School for the first time on Saturday, two weeks after they hosted the Seymour Panton Classic at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.
The meet, which has been held at Irwin High and Herbert Morrison in the past, was originally set for the Montego Bay Sports Complex, but the organisers took the decision to move it to Lucea due to the poor state of the track at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex.
It is the second track and field meet that has been moved from the Montego Bay Sports Complex in the last few weeks as the organisers of the Milo Western Relays have decided to move the annual meet to the GC Foster Sports College in St Catherine in February.
On Saturday athletes from over 20 western Jamaica-based schools will compete in several track events – 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m – as well as sprint and intermediate hurdles and throwing events.
There will be shot put and discus throw events for boys in Classes 1 and 2; shot put for girls Classes 1 and 2 and discus throw for girls Classes 1, 2 and 3.
There will also be sprint hurdles for boys and girls Classes 1 through 4; 100m in all classes; 200m in Class 4 girls only; 400m in Classes 1 through 3; 800m in Class 1 through 3 and 1500m in Classes 1 through 3.
