Transport ministry to address alleged unwarranted PPV seizure
KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Ministry of Transport and Mining says it is moving to address the alleged unwarranted public passenger vehicle (PPV) seizures in the transport system.
The Transport Ministry, in a statement this afternoon, said it recognises the public perception of the bad reputation that has been attached to transport operators, and is therefore seeking ways to improve that situation, along with the overall operation of the transport industry, in addition to the alleged corrupt practices associated with the seizure process at this time.
This change to how such matters have been handled previously, will serve to make the transport system not only safer for the users of the system but for the entire Jamaica, the ministry said in its statement.
The ministry reiterated that the new Road Traffic Act is intended to change the culture of driving and road usage among motorist, while ensuring safer roads for all road users, motorists and pedestrians alike.
