Majority of legacy road project works to be completed by March 2019
KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that major works on all the legacy road infrastructure projects should be completed by the end of March 2019.
“Of course, we will have tidying up and finishing work on basically all of the projects continuing after that point. But the aim is [that] at the end of the first quarter of 2019, significant portions of the work should be behind us,” Senior NWA Communications Officer, Ramona Lawson, said in a JIS News interview.
Some of the major roadworks include the US$19-million Constant Spring Road Improvement Project, the US$64-million Mandela Highway Realignment and Reconstruction Project, the US$56-million Hagley Park Road Improvement Project, the US$24.9-million Ferris Cross to Mackfield Project, and the US$4.4 million Barbican Road Upgrade Project.
Lawson advised that the Barbican Road Improvement Project is 97 per cent complete.
“[Additionally] Hagley Park Road is 64 per cent complete, Constant Spring Road is overall 43 per cent complete, the Mandela Highway – 88 per cent complete, and the Ferris Cross to Mackfield project in Westmoreland is 41 per cent complete,” she stated.
The road infrastructure legacy projects fall under the Government of Jamaica’s Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP), which is being financed through a concessionary loan from the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
