Jamaica, the blessed
Dear Editor,
I know there is a crime outbreak in our country and that successive governments have grappled with this beast.
The Church is confronting it through prayers and the average ordinary citizens in their own way are trying.
Notwithstanding, we have, for a small island, some of the best people in this world, and if you disbelieve just ask foreigners.
Today, I am going to commend our health sector — an extraordinary sector. The University Hospital of the West Indies’ (UHWI) doctors and nurses are some of the most efficient and talented of their group. Of course, its hard to compete with Kingston Public Hospital, which we all know boasts the crème de la crème. But Ward 4 nurses at the UHWI cannot go unmentioned, because not only are they clinical, they are humane. The patient care assistants (PCA), too, must also be noticed and never be left out. For example, there is a PCA, Colleen Geddes, whose whole manner reflects warmth and professionalism. Intensive Care Units (ICU) anywhere in the world spell doom, except at the UHWI. Those exceptional doctors and nurses seem trained. They are nothing else but excellent, and it is my opinion that the ICU at the UHWI must be speedily recognised and branded before somebody else invests or buys into it, if possible, and we lose another piece of our excellence.
Let us highlight the excellence in our people and country. We have taken a lot of goodness for granted and overlooked hard work and dedication and are now rewarded with a crime wave. Commending good should never be hard.
