Most Memorable Pop Down Moments of 2018
Style Observer (SO) Most Memorable brings us to the pop down list. These instances had us scratching our heads and uttering the phrase “Jamaica is not a real place”.
Overdressed Unusuals
We reckon that it was just a case of Twitter Fingers but journalist-cum attorney Emily Shields described the patrons of Restaurant Week as “overdressed unusuals”. Cue: mayhem on the interwebs. The utterance ignited discussions about classism, and Shields deleted the post, but not before Jamaican Twitter screenshot it for posterity.
Carmageddon
On Monday, September 10, Kingston was brought to a standstill by multiple road construction projects being undertaken simultaneously. To make matters worse it rained later in the afternoon. This created gridlock that took until after the second televised evening news broadcast to dissipate. This ‘carmaggedon’ was just a dress rehearsal for the weeks-long mayhem that we have encountered since ‘September Morning’.
Construction Spring Road
Yes, this deserves a separate mention. The thought of driving along Constant Spring Road to Manor Park elicits the “no sah” that accompanies ideas like going to the bank on a payday that lands on a Friday. Oof! From suffering businesses to no business at all.
Let Them Eat Cake
Who woulda thunk that a delicious cake could cause so much furore? Well, everyone had something to say about the birthday cake for Dr Andrew Wheatley that cost US $1,000 which scandal-hot Petrojam paid for. Surprise! It’s not that the cake was overpriced per se, it was the fact that government funds were used to fête a minister of government.
Human Resourcefulness
Another Petrojam kerfuffle. We’re still waiting for an explanation of how an underqualified person not only got the top HR job, but took home a cool mil a month. How? How? #jamaicaisnotarealplace.
Food, Glorious Food…
The fight at Dream Weekend at breakfast that ended with a few guests sans weave, and pieces of their ensembles missing.
Jerome, Jerome, they won’t leave…
A cry for help that started the fall from grace heard from Kingston to Morant Bay of one of the Rock’s most prominent real estate attorneys.
#UPT #Ennui
#Ready for the weekend #tgif #ultramusic festival #mmw2018. A case of #UPT ennui. Thankfully, the police determined that there was no threat. A lesson was well learned for the digital age.
