Big day at STETHS
Santa Cruz , St Elizabeth — St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) recently showed off its technical/vocational education programme during ‘Tech/Voc Day’ on the school campus.
“It was good,” vice principal Sandra Holness told the Jamaica Observer Central.
She said students and their teachers got the opportunity to display their achievements to visitors and the wider school family in a range of areas, including science, agriculture and food processing, the culinary arts and catering, clothing, fashions, cosmetology, event planning, mechanical technology, construction, visual arts, information technology, business and the humanities.
Holness said Tech/Voc day demonstrated to a considerable extent that students are increasingly recognising opportunities for developing their own businesses after leaving school.
“I see students who are saying ‘miss I know I can start my own business’,” she said.
The first Tech/Voc was held in 2016 and Holness said the plan was for the next one, possibly in two years, to be even bigger and better.
“We want to take it to another level in terms of innovation,” the vice principal said.
Tech/Voc Day was twinned with a well-attended parental seminar, allowing parents to assess the work of students.
