Cornwall goalie takes Champions Cup Golden Glove
CATHERINE HALL, St James — Cornwall College’s midfielder Shavon McDonald and goalkeeper Peter Sinclair were among the individual award winners as the Montego Bay-based school created history on Saturday night, winning the ISSA Champions Cup title by beating former champions Jamaica College 1-0 at Montego Bay Sports Complex.
McDonald, who won his second Man of the Match Award, was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, while Sinclair, who conceded one goal in four games, took the Golden Glove Award.
Cornwall College, who were in their second final since 2016, became the first daCosta Cup team to win the competition after coming up short against Wolmer’s Boys’ two years ago at Sabina Park.
A third Cornwall College player, Aiden Jokomba shared the Golden Boot Award with the Jamaica College pair of Norman Campbell and Earon Elliott, as they all finished on three goals each, none of them getting on the scoresheet on Saturday.
St George’s College, who lost in the semi-finals to Cornwall College, took the Most Disciplined Team Award.
