Historic Win
CATHERINE HALL, St James —Cornwall College were crowned ISSA Champions Cup winners last night after beating former champions Jamaica College 1-0 in the final at Montego Bay Sports Complex.
A 19th-minute goal from Shavon McDonald was the difference as Cornwall College finally broke the stranglehold on the cup by urban area teams.
McDoanld, who had missed a sitter in the 2016 final, found the back of the net when he rounded two defenders on the left side and fired into the far corner of the goal.
It was the second final for the Dr Dean Weatherly-coached team after they were beaten in the 2016 final by Wolmer’s Boys’ at Sabina Park.
The win also broke a two-game win streak by Jamaica College over Cornwall College, as they had won in the first round of the Champions Cup in 2014 and also in the Olivier Shield, both in Montego Bay.
