Haute Living…
Shareholder of the cashmere-chic Round Hill Hotel & Villas Vanessa Noel jetted in to the island with a few intimes to celebrate her birthday as well as three decades as the luxury shoe designer to New York’s discerning and fashionable set. Noel, who’s also a hotelier, gallery owner and philanthropist — known for her glorious celebrations — pulled out all stops to ensure a memorable weekend for her guests. What’s next on Noel’s to-do list? Why a shoe museum of course!
Across The Pond…
It was ‘take your mom to work day’ (or was it the other way round?) for Naomi Campbell and her mom Valerie Morris-Campbell. The stunning beauties star alongside well known British celebs in the highly-anticipated Burberry Christmas advert which will be released on November 13. Morris-Campbell is a 69-year old former dancer and the amazing Jamaican genes definitely benefitted Naomi. Thanks, Burberry for this early Christmas gift!
Up North…
Listen up! Learn the name Maya Annik Bedward. Bedward is a Jamaican-Québecoise filmmaker who, after living in Brazil and the UK, currently resides in Toronto. The self-described “filmmaker, arts educator and community-engaged artist” has been the darling of documentary short festivals with her engaging and thought-provoking pieces. Her 2018 short The Haircut chronicles her Jamaican father’s painful journey getting haircuts after emigrating to Ottawa in the 1950s where “Black immigrants were rare and often unwelcome”. To this day he still hates getting his hair cut. Bedward has two other shorts under her belt — 2016’s A Hidden History: The Story of the New Orleans Tribune and 2014’s The Foreigner. Hey Academy give this woman a gold statuette already!
Plus…
Saint International model Wayne Booth met her “twin” Aweng Chuol. The Jamaican and Sudanese-by-way-of-Australia models teamed up for a “Surrender” editorial in Oyster Magazine. The arresting images show the ladies intertwined, literally, in empty rooms of an old abandoned building (think: salmon or mint paint, formica walls, and mosaic stained-glass walls).
And…
Still on the Saint train, Shena Moulton, who often walks the runway for Oscar de la Renta, is back with the brand for obvious reasons: her striking face and Saintly stature. Moulton was the perfect muse in print and sheer brocade dresses from the designers’ Spring/Summer ’18 catalog. Rock on, Shena!
Cannot Took It!
From the airport incident to the forging of signatures and the Liberace jacket it’s been one pop down of a week.
