Titchfield advanced to the second round of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup, after years in the wilderness, when they earned a 2-2 draw against Fair Prospect at Carder Park on Saturday last.

Scoring for Titchfield’s were D’Angelo Davis (30th) and Raheem Bryan in the 93rd minute, while for Fair Prospect, Keran West (51st) and Shamarlo Buckley (53rd) were the scorers.

In a tense game both teams took time to settle, with Titchfield through Alexei Sterling, Raheem Bryan and Easton Kinlock launching most of the attacks.

Fair Prospect countered through Javaan Ingleton, Shamarlo Buckley, Brandon Myers and Dimetri Powell. Titchfield should have taken the lead in the first 10 minutes but stout defending by Fair Prospect’s Keran West and Tajheme Smith kept them at bay.

Titchfield took the lead on the half-hour mark when D’Angelo Davis fired home from close range. The half ended 1-0.

Fair Prospect started the second half fully charged as they launched a number of attacks and soon wore down the Titchfield defence.

Fair Prospect equalised in the 51st minute when Titchfield defender Rondel Harris failed to clear and Keran West latched onto the ball, moved into the penalty area and fired past goalkeeper Maximus Davis — thereby silencing the partisan supporters.

Fair Prospect then took control when they earned a corner taken by Javaan Ingleton. Shamarlo Buckley pounced on the delivery from Ingleton, firing home in the 53rd minute to place Fair Prospect ahead by two goals to one.

Titchfield got the equaliser from the penalty spot when substitute Derrick Banny was taken down in the penalty area in added time and referee Garry Wilson pointed to the penalty spot. Raheem Bryan then calmly placed the ball to the right of goalkeeper Adrian Buckley, levelling the score at two goals each.

Titchfield, who lost their first encounter 1-2, were still able to move to the second round.

Commenting after the match, Fair Prospect’s coach Raymond Munsie said: “We expected a tough game and the team lived up to expectation. We got some chances and failed to convert, and gave up a penalty that cost us.”

Renault Tomlinson, coach of Titchfield, was pleased. “Our objective was met. We wanted to get to the next round and we have done that and we will take it from there, one game at a time,” he said.
