Man, woman face court on ganja charges
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A 19-year-old woman was nabbed with six and a half pounds of compressed ganja after she attempted to board a flight from the Norman Manley International Airport to the Eastern Caribbean on Thursday.
A 22-year-old man, who is alleged to have given her the suitcase in which the drug was found has also been arrested, the police have reported.
According to a report from the police’s Corporate Communications Unit, the female, Kaydian Sheppy of a Kingston 11 address, checked in at 11:30 am to board a flight destined to the Eastern Caribbean when her luggage was searched and the compressed ganja found in a false compartment.
She was taken into custody and on further investigations it was revealed that Osborne Rowe, a labourer of Spanish Town in St Catherine had given her the suitcase.
Rowe was taken into the custody and both were charged with the possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps preparatory to export ganja, and conspiracy.
They are scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Parish Court next Wednesday, for the drug which is said to have an estimated street value of $26,000.
