Marcus Garvey upset Brown’s Town 1-0
DRAX HALL, St Ann — Brown’s Town High failed in their first attempt to win Zone I of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition yesterday after they were upset 0-1 by out-of-contention Marcus Garvey High in their return-round game played at Drax Hall.
It was the first loss of the season for Brown’s Town who went into the game needing a win that would have seen them progress to the second round and would have topped the zone.
They must now wait until Saturday when they complete their first round against Ocho Rios High in a game that both teams must win if they are to make progress to the next round.
Brown’s Town still lead the zone with 18 points, two more than Ocho Rios, York Castle and Oracabessa High, setting up what could be a dramatic final round of games.
Also yesterday, Green Island High beat Merlene Ottey High 3-0 in their Zone B game, while the Zone A game between Maldon High and Anchovy High was not played as the field at Maldon was not prepared.
Four games will be played today with defending champions Rusea’s High completing their first round away to Hopewell High in Zone B.
Zone C winners Cedric Titus High will host Holland High and Spot Valley High will take on William Knibb Memorial, while in Zone D Knockalva Technical and Belmont Academy will meet in Zone D.
