‘Maneater’ in good shape for Gold Cup
The stage is once set for tomorrow’s renewal of the Gold Cup (Grade One) sponsored by Cal’s Tomato Ketchup. The event was first run at Caymanas Park in 1967 and won by the then invincible British import Kilowatt .
This year’s the Cal’s Tomato Ketchup Gold Cup (seven furlongs – 1,400m), will have all eyes on the brilliant She’s A Maneater as she attempts to add another silverware to her cabinet.
She’s A Maneater has raced five times this season with three wins, her two defeats coming at the hoofs of Will In Charge in the Legal Light over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on April 21 and Houdini’s Magic in The Viceroy Trophy over nine furlongs (1,800m) on June 30. In the race won by Houdini’s Magic, Will In Charge was again in front of She’s A Maneater.
She’s A Maneater chalked up wins in the Lotto Sprint over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m) on May 26, the Eros Trophy over seven-and-a-furlongs (1,500m) on July 28 and the None Such Trophy over six furlongs (1,200m) on September 8.
Those victories have suggested that the distance of the Gold Cup holds no problems for her and even with top weight of 126 lb (57.0 kgs), S he’s A Maneater is going to take a lot of beating.
“I have two horses running in the Gold Cup. The obvious one is She’s A Maneater. She has done everything that I have asked of her this year and she has responded in an acceptable manner and is heading into the Gold Cup in good shape and a happy frame of mind.
“The other entrant is Perfect Neighbour. The distance could be on the short side but he is fit and also working well as he always does,” champion trainer Wayne DaCosta informed.
DaCosta has won the Gold Cup on four occasions in 1996 with Derrick Smith’s Mr Sensational, in 2005 with Clock Work part-owned with Winston Kong, in 2008 with Kong’s Ahwhofah and in 2015 with Perfect Neighbour, owned by Alfred Lee and Jeffrey Mordecai.
