Hotel worker charged with rape of American guests
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The St James police have charged a 24-year-old man in connection with the alleged rape of two female guests at a hotel in Montego Bay, St James, where he was employed as a trainee entertainment coordinator.
The two women are said to be Americans.
According to the head honcho of the St James Police Division, Senior Superintendent of Police Wayne Campbell, the accused, Demar Scott, who is of St Ann and Manchester addresses, has been charged with two counts of rape, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of attempted robbery, and possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.
He was charged on Sunday.
Reports from the police are that on September 27, Scott, who was only employed at the hotel for three days, allegedly broke into the room of the two guests and raped them at gunpoint.
Before that, he allegedly broke into a guest room where he stole the gun of a licensed firearm holder staying at the hotel.
While he allegedly proceeded to rape the two women at gunpoint, one of them managed to get hold of the gun that fell from his grasp and fired two shots in his direction. He was shot, but managed to escape from the room.
Following the alleged attack on the guests, he is said to have turned up at the May Pen Public General Hospital in Clarendon with gunshot wounds.
The hotel has since sent out a release acknowledging that the incident took place.
“Last night, September 27th, there was a very unfortunate incident in the Riu Reggae Hotel in which two guests were attacked by a trainee at the entertainment department of the hotel. The man, who had been in training for only three days, was able to escape. The hotel management immediately called the police and accompanied and supported the guests with everything in this difficult moment,” the release read in part.
