The sting gets hotter from Killer Bee
Consistency continues to pay off for four-year-old bay filly Killer Bee, as the Spencer Chung trained filly picked up another win, this time at the Overnight Allowance level — her first run in the class at Caymanas Park on Wednesday (October 3).
Killer Bee produced one of her telling late runs going over five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course, an effort which now places her in Open Allowance where she will face tougher opponents.
Under Aaron Chatrie, Killer Bee outbattled Twilight Dreams (Christopher Mamdeen) by a short head in a driving finish to the wire. Supertronics (Omar Walker), who was also flying a 1/2 a furlong out, was a head away in third place. A final time of 1:00.2 was recorded.
Chung then confirmed that Killer Bee is a nice run on sprinter who should continue to do well.
“She [ Killer Bee] is an improving filly who is mainly a short sprinter, and she should be able to hold her own at this level and just above,” Chung said.
Killer Bee by Storm Craft – Outfitter has not yet won beyond six furlongs (1,200m) but be that as it may, she looked determined enough to go on further when landing her fifth career. She has also finished second five times from a total of 26 starts.
Killer Bee was held off the pace as she couldn’t go with the early leaders — Little Big Horn (Shane Ellis), Sir Budget (Samantha Fletcher) and Lunar Rocket (Arthur Budhu) — who were mixing up things up front.
By the time the field turned for home and Little Big Horn kicked away from rivals all seemed lost for Killer Bee, but Chatrie produced his mount and with a late surge in the end, was able to get up just in time for the close win.
