HIGHGATE, St Mary — St Mary Technical took over the lead in Zone J of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition yesterday after edging Brimmervale High 3-2 in their rescheduled game played at the Highgate Community Centre.

All four games, three played in western Jamaica, were affected by islandwide rains.

At Highgate, Dontae Byfield scored twice for St Mary Technical as they took over the lead with seven points from three games, one more than St Mary High, with Guys Hill High slipping to third on five points.

Green Island High scored their second straight 4-0 win, beating Cambridge High in Zone B after losing their opening game by the same margin.

The win moved Green Island to six points, one behind joint leaders Frome Technical — who they will meet tomorrow — and defending champions Rusea’s High.

Green Island had opened the season with a loss to Rusea’s High, but had rebounded by beating Merlene Ottey by the same score.

Holland High scored their first win of the season, blanking Muschett High 2-0 at Holland after losing their first two games, as Johnoy McIntosh scored both goals, the first for the school, snapping their fruitless run of 180 minutes.

the Manning’s School came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Knockalva Technical in the Zone D game played in a steady rain in Savanna-la-Mar and missed taking over the lead.

Knockalva took the lead early in the first half, while the home team responded early in the second half as they shared the points.

It was the second straight draw for Knockalva Technical, while The Manning’s School inched up to joint second place with Petersfield High, both on four points, one behind leaders Little London.

Meanwhile, four schools which had their perfect starts snapped on Saturday, will be hoping to get back to winning ways when the competition continues with six games in two groups today.

Zone F leaders Manchester High will face DeCarteret College, while Mile Gully, who trail them on goal-difference, take on third-placed B B Coke High. One point separates Mile Gully and B B Coke in the first meeting between the schools since the 2016 season.

Manchester High and Mile Gully, who had a dramatic 1-1 draw on Saturday with both goals coming in time added, are on seven points with B B Coke on six points.

Brown’s Town and Ocho Rios also played out a draw in their top of Zone I clash on Saturday and will play Iona High and Oracabessa High, respectively, today.

Oracabessa High are playing in Zone I for the first time and have won two of their three games and are a point behind Brown’s Town and Ocho Rios, who are on seven points at the top.
