Titchfield rally to hold Port Antonio to 1-1 draw in Port Antonio daCosta Cup Derby
Titchfield came from behind to hold Port Antonio to a one all draw at a packed Carder Park in their ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup Zone L game Saturday in the Port Antonio Derby.
Port Antonio’s Andrew Layne scored in the 43rd minute to send them ahead but substitute Khemarle Forrester replied for Titchfield in the 75th minute, to end this pulsating Derby in a draw.
Titchfield started out attacking through Raheem Bryan, Derrick Banny and D’Angelo Davis in a game dominated by Port Antonio as they countered through Andrew Layne, Benjamin Byfield, Oshauny Jackson and Tajay Puran.
Byfield started to control the midfield making a few runs but was not able to penetrate Titchfield’s goalkeeper Maximus Davis who worked tirelessly.
Port Antonio got the breakthrough when O’Neil Pryce picked up a ball deep in his half and passed to Andrew Layne down the right flank. Layne then cut in, and in the process dismissed a defender, before firing a left foot shot past Davis. It was Layne’s fourth goal of the season.
Titchfield came out attacking in the second half but failed to convert their chances as Port Antonio countered through Benjamin Byfield.
Titchfield’s coach Renault Tomlinson then pulled Banny for Forrester on the hour much to the displeasure of supporters.
The substitution paid off as Forrester went on to score the equaliser for Titchfield.
Port Antonio’s coach Marlon Hylton was philosophical “They got the better of us last year but these youngsters were up and running. We didn’t get the three points but we did what we could and earned a point”.
Tomlinson was also happy with the point. “This was a game that we could not afford to walk away from without one point. It was the top of the table clash plus the in-town Derby and I was most impressed as when we went down the youngsters fought and we got that equaliser. That’s good for us”.
