SO2 — Sunday, August 12
Jamaica has produced some of fashion’s most striking faces — Grace Jones, Althea Laing, Lois Samuels, Kai Newman and Tami Williams, to name a few. Indeed, The Rock has had a sterling history within the industry. Each season, Style Observer (SO) takes pleasure in watching our ambassadors of beauty rep the black, green and gold down runways and in fashion mags across the world.
Recently, 29-year-old Pulse model Jeneil Williams was signed by Swedish retail company H&M as a brand ambassador. Since then she’s shot three sportswear campaigns, the most recent of which was the ‘All in Together’ campaign shot in San Francisco. Williams’s trademark smile and high cheekbones draw the eye to her face. She easily stands out from the campaign’s eight other models.
That’s not all.
Saint model Shaun Holder starred in a Timo Kerber-lensed photostory (online editorial) for Vogue Italia entitled ‘Voyeur Eyes Only’. With looks for Prada, Thom Browne, Balenciaga, Chloé and Versace, Holder looked, in a word, majestic. Kerber captured Holder’s angles with a Pentax 6x camera as he has a penchant for “the pure beauty and rawness of analogue photography.” Holder has looks for days. She would look amazing whether captured on an expensive digital device by a professional or, by an amateur with an old-school 35mm point-and-shoot.
Whether it’s the trailblazers or the crop of girls, fashion’s global lens always zooms in on our home-grown models.
Plus!
The University of the West Indies will confer honorary doctorates on Grace Jones and Rihanna at this year’s graduation ceremony for their contributions to the entertainment industry. And, of course, for being trailblazers!
