Summerhouse at the Liguanea Club kicked off its “summer series” with a wine tasting featuring rosés from Caribbean Producers Jamaica Ltd (CPJ). CPJ’s brand manager, wines Ohran Cato introduced guests to three rosés from different varietal regions — Côtes de Provence, Veneto and Monterey.

According to Cato, “We wanted to kick off the series by carrying guests throughout different regions to see what each does with a rosé and experience the differences in taste.” The wines were a great choice for a hot summer’s evening and perfectly complemented Summerhouse’s new bar bite menu.

CPJ offered guests two still rosés and one sparkling. The first was the 2016 Minuty Prestige Rosé from France. Pale pink in colour, crisp and dry; it displays notes of grapefruit and a subtle mineral finish. It’s the kind of wine one could easily drink while spending a day by the water.

The second wine was the 2016 Sofia Rosé from Francis Ford Coppola. Its stylish bottle and alluring razzmatazz colour did not detract from the juicy blood orange and strawberry notes and its playful floral finish.

The final wine was the crowd-pleasing 2016 Fantinel Millesimato Brut Rosé. Who doesn’t love a good pink bubbly? Stone fruit, berries and a nice long finish make this Italian wine perfect for, as Cato put it, “lazy enjoyment”.

CPJ’s commercial director Rhys Campbell highlighted the fact that the company is the exclusive provider of still wines for Summerhouse at the Liguanea Club. Both entities will team up again on July 31, for a second wine tasting. This time the focus will be white wines.

A sultry summer’s night can easily be improved by drinking a bright, crisp and refreshing wine. The season is in full swing and Thursday Food recommends being tickled pink.
