LAST Sunday was Father’s Day, and it proved to be the perfect time to bring back exciting two-wheel action in the form of Motocross at DaCosta Farms in St Catherine.
Hosted by Irie Racing, the occasion was Round 1 of their summer series.
“The event went really well and smooth for only putting it together in two weeks. It’s the first time in six years we have kept a motocross race in Jamaica,” Kyle Reynolds of Irie Racing told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
Irie Racing will host the successive two rounds on July 14 and August 12 at locations to be determined.
The series has six classes; 50cc class for children aged three to seven, MX 65cc class for ages seven to 11, MX 85cc class for those under 13 years of age.
The B class is for slower adults and teens, while A class caters to the faster, more experienced adults and teens. There is an open class for anyone wanting to enter. There will be a champions crowned at the end of the series. The race format sees two races for each class. In situations where applicable, classes can have their individual races combined. Reynolds is completely bullish on the more than positive reception to last Sunday’s staging.
“Oh, man, everyone loved it! It’s been a long time coming as there’s been six years with no racing.”
With 30 riders showing up, ranging in ages five years old to 50, every race was packed with action across the near-one-kilometre dirt track featuring high-banked corners and ramps for riders to catch air.
“Motocross has and always will be my first love. Irie Racing is all about Motocross,” Reynolds explained.
