Warriors seek third win in WBA Men’s Div One
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay Boys Club Warriors are hoping to continue their rampage through the Western Basketball Association’s Men’s Division One on Sunday when they host Muschett Falcons at the Boys Club Courts in one of two double-headers set to be played in Montego Bay.
Warriors have been on a scoring binge over the last two weekends with lopsided wins and have amassed 264 points from a 167-45 win over Knibb Thunder followed by a 97-46 win over Brown’s Town Eagles last weekend.
Also, on Sunday, MBCC Gladiators face Knibb Thunder in the first game at Boys Club, while at Cornwall College, Darliston Mystros and UWI-WJC Jayhawks play against each other at 2:00 pm, followed by the Cornwall College 96ers against Holland Blue Rebels encounter.
Last Sunday, Tafari Vassell followed up his quadruple-double the previous week, with a triple-double in Warriors’ 51-point win over Brown’s Town Eagles, as they took their record to four wins.
Vassell scored a game-high 31 points and had 11 rebounds and assists, while David Gordon scored 31 points for Warriors, who led 25-6 after the first quarter and were up 52-26 at half-time.
Ruel Richards scored 15 points for Brown’s Town, Peter Chambers scored 11 points, Richard Davis got 13 rebounds, and Karl Mitchell got 10 rebounds.
UWI-WJC Jayhawks won their third game when they beat Muschett Falcons 71-39 ,with Antonio Spence and Nicholas Minott both getting double-doubles.
Spence scored 28 points and had 13 rebounds and Minott scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds, while Michael Tomlinson scored 15 points for Muschett.
In the other game played, Montego Bay Community College Gladiators held off Darliston Mystros to win by six points, 77-71, in a close encounter at the Montego Bay Community College.
Three players scored in double digits for the Gladiators team, led by Orlan Lamey’s 29 points, with 21 points by David Peck and 13 by Christopher Gibson, as Josimar Stephenson grabbed 17 rebounds and had nine assists.
Ross Andre Murphy had a double-double for Mystros with 11 points and 13 rebounds, Terrence Tate scored 29 points, and Dylon Hodges had 12 rebounds along with nine points and nine assists.
