Second Genesis Cup launched at Manchester High
A massive crowd descended on the Manchester High s chool in Mandeville recently for the second staging of the Genesis Cup, a football tournament which was hosted by the Genesis Football Academy.
Forty-six teams from across the island played in five different age-group categories, ranging from Under-7 to Under-15, as 670 boys and girls battled all day for the various trophies and prizes on offer.
The large crowd that witnessed the event (which included many parents), was engrossed all day by the competitive but friendly play. Most teams fielded only boys but some clubs had girls playing in their teams alongside the boys.
At the end of the day, Norbrook Academy were crowned Under-7 champions. St Aloysius were the Under-9 champions, Ballaz the Under-11, hosts Genesis won the Under-13, while St Andrew Technical lifted the Under-15 trophy.
Norbrook defeated Ballaz 2-1 on penalties in the Under-7 finals, St Aloysius defeated Ballaz 1-0 in the Under-9 final before Ballaz defeated Emmanuel in the Under-11 final for their first win in their third final of the day.
Hosts Genesis defeated STATHS 4-3 on penalties in the Under-13 final, while STATHS defeated Central in the Under-15 final.
