#WC2018: 2 more quick scores make it Russia 3, Egypt 0
MOSCOW, Russia (AP) — Goals from Denis Cheryshev and Artyom Dzyuba have given Russia a 3-0 lead over Egypt in St. Petersburg and have the hosts cruising toward the knockout stages.
Villarreal winger Cheryshev scored his third goal of the tournament in the 59th minute off a low cross from Mario Fernandes at the byline. That puts Cheryshev level with Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo as the highest scorers of the tournament, though Ronaldo has played only one game.
Dzyuba made it 3-0 just three minutes later, controlling the ball on his chest and beating Ali Gabr before knocking the ball past Mohamed Elshanawy in the Egyptian goal. Dzyuba saluted the fans in celebration.
If Russia can beat Egypt, the host nation will be all but assured of reaching the knockout stages.
