Over 100,000 students to sit final Grade 4 Literacy and Numeracy exams
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Over 100,000 students will sit the final Grade Four Literacy and Numeracy examinations in their current form over the next two days.
A total of 104,209 students are registered to sit the exams, 16, 494 of which are repeaters for the literacy exam and 8, 898 for numeracy, the Ministry of Education said in a release today.
The students will sit the literacy exam in 1,568 centres and the numeracy exams in 1,769 centres across the island.
The ministry said that training of presiding examiners and invigilators by the regions have been completed and monitors have been recruited and trained to give support to the Education Ministry’s core personnel who will be engaged in monitoring the administration of the exams.
Some 322 special needs students will be provided with accommodations such as the provision of a reader, writer, prompter, shadow, extra time, large print and Braille, the ministry said, adding that 11 interpreters for students who speak Russian, Dutch, Mandarin, Spanish, French and Chinese have also been provided.
