#WC2018: England, Tunisia 1-1 at halftime in Volgograd
VOLGOGRAD, Russia (AP) — England and Tunisia are level at 1-1 at halftime in their World Cup opener in Volgograd.
Harry Kane gave England a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when he tapped in from close range after Tunisia goalkeeper Moez Hassen had acrobatically saved a powerful John Stones header.
Hassen, who had already appeared to injure his shoulder, was replaced by Farouk Ben Mustapha soon after.
Despite that disruption and England’s early attacking intent, Tunisia slowly built up momentum and got an equalizer when Ferjani Sassi calmly slotted a penalty into the left corner of the England net and past the dive of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
The penalty was awarded after Kyle Walker was adjudged to have caught Fakhreddine Ben Youssef with his arm.
