Leaders Dunbeholden target victory against Mount Pleasant
Leaders Dunbeholden FC could take a massive step towards qualification if they beat third-placed Mount Pleasant FA in their crucial Magnum/Charley’s JB JFF Playoff game at Drax Hall at 4:00 pm.
In the other match at the same time, second-placed Barbican FC host the struggling Wadadah FC at the Barbican Complex.
The St Catherine-based Dunbeholden lead the four-team table on seven points, two ahead of KSAFA’s Barbican on five points, Mount Pleasant of St Ann are third with four points, while St James’ Wadadah are at the bottom pointless after three rounds of games.
The Drax Hall complex should be buzzing with excitement as the first- and third-placed teams clash in a mammoth encounter.
In their first match, Dunbeholden edged Mount Pleasant 2-1 and will be looking for a repeat which would put them on the cusp of qualification. Mount Pleasant cannot afford to lose as they would fall six points behind Dunbeholden with two games remaining.
The Michael Cohen-coached Dunbeholden will look towards Ricardo Harriott, Damarley Oliver, Jerome Wedderburn, Horatio McKnight, Lorenzo Dubidad and Akeem Small to lead the charge.
The Paul “Tegat” Davis-coached Mount Pleasant cannot afford to slip further behind and will be depending on the likes of top marksman Kesslan Hall, who scored in all three games. Shaquel Notice, Liston James, Devon Hodges and Rupert Murray will be the other to lead the St Ann-based team’s charge.f
Only a win for the struggling Wadadah will make any sense. The Western champion, who last won the Premier League in 1992, seemed to be the weakest of the four teams, and after crashing 0-3 to Barbican in the first round at home, are not now fancied to do better away at the Barbican Complex today.
But with their backs against the wall, Wadadah can either come good and secure a positive result or throw in the towel.
Deshawn Woolery, Calwayne Allen, Tyshan Hill, Obrien Robinson, Fabian Gifford, Oshane Hunter and Kemiro James must step up to the plate and deliver if Wadadah are to get a positive result.
Barbican will welcome back suspended captain Ramone McGregor, and his return will no doubt strengthen the backline. Andrew Christie, veteran Locksley Thompson, Shaquille Lewis, Jermain Parris and Cornelius Simms are expected to be the main players for Barbican.
