Granville Jaguars on the hunt for seven straight win
Montego Bay , St James — Granville Jaguars, fresh from their come-from-behind win over previously unbeaten Cricket Club Knights, will today seek to improve their record to seven-straight wins when they face Catherine Hall All-Stars in their Western Basketball Association Elite Basketball League at Montego Bay Cricket Club.
Granville Jaguars trailed by eight points at half-time and by two at the end of the third quarter on Thursday, but rallied to beat Cricket Club Knights 75-71 in the first game of a rare midweek double-header at Cricket Club.
In the second game, Lucea Flames chalked up their third-straight win to take their record to three wins and three losses, after their 56-44 win over Inner-city Avalanche.
Also today, Cricket Club will seek to rebound when they take on Cornwall Courts Chargers in the first game set to start at 4:15 pm, followed by Holland Saints against Sav Elite Titans.
On Thursday, Tafari Vassell had a double-double for Granville Jaguars as they dug deep to get past a tough Cricket Club Knights.
Knights got off to the better start and led 21-15 after the opening quarter, and increased the advantage to eight points, 38-30, at half-time.
Granville rallied in the third quarter to cut the deficit to two points, 51-53, then carried the momentum into the fourth quarter as Levar Rose led the way with 24 points, Leroy Lawrence scored 19 points and nine rebounds, and Vassell scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds, with David Gordon getting 10 rebounds.
Jhaun Bryan scored 20 points for Cricket Club Knights and also had nine rebounds, Antonio Spence scored 16 points and had nine rebounds, Ralique Grant scored 13 points, and Rayon Gardiner had 11 rebounds.
Lucea Flames have come back strongly, after losing their first three games, with three straight victories and, after a 14-all tie for the first quarter, outscored Inner-City Avalanche by 12 points, 42-30, over the next three quarters.
Jvon Calderon had a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Lucea Flames, Julian Walker scored 14 points, Sheldon Myrie scored 13 points, and Garfield Johnson scored 11.
Ryheem Barrett also had a double-double for Avalanche with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Dane Morris and Dovial Smith both scored eight points.
