Corinaldi vs Granville
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Granville All-Age will put perfect records on the line tomorrow when they meet in the final of the St James Football Association VMBS Under-13 competition at the UDC field in Montego Bay, set to start at 11:15 am.
Something will have to give as a champion team will be crowned as the two teams have not only won all their games played so far, but neither goalkeeper has let in a goal all season long.
The teams punched their tickets to the final in Tuesday’s semi-finals when Corinaldi Avenue edged Howard Cooke 1-0 after Granville All-Age beat Mt Salem 2-0 in the first semi-final encounter.
Howard Cooke Primary who, have conceded just one goal in their six wins up to the semi-finals , will face Mt Salem in the consolation game, set to start at 10:00 am, also tomorrow.
Granville All-Age were gifted the lead on Tuesday after Aaron McClennon mistakenly deflected a ball past his own goalkeeper in the 27th minute, before Kevar Stewart made the game safe in the 53rd minute after he fired home from the right side low and hard into the far corner of the Mt Salem goal.
Nathoniel Gibbs, fresh from winning three gold medals in the Western Primary Schools Athletics Championships on Saturday, scored Corinaldi Avenue’s only goal of the game, in the seventh minute.
Corinaldi Avenue Primary, last season’s beaten finalists and who have scored 20 goals in their seven games played, topped Zone B in the first-round they won all four games by scoring 14 goals, then won both games in the quarter-finals, scoring five goals.
Granville All-Age are less prolific with only four goals in their three first-round games, but they scored nine goals in three games since, seven in their two quarter-final games and two on Tuesday.
