Three arrested in multimillion-dollar ganja bust in St Elizabeth
THREE men who attempted to elude police officers in St Elizabeth on Sunday night have been arrested in a multimillion-dollar ganja bust.
The police say the men are to be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys before charges are laid.
A release from the constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit said the men were captured when police seized more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana during an operation in Parotee, St Elizabeth. The ganja has an estimated value of $4 million, according to the release.
Reports from the police are that about 9:30 pm, a team of officers was conducting operations in the area when they saw a group of men offloading several knitted plastic bags from a Hiace bus.
On seeing the police the men reportedly ran. However, they were captured.
The police say the bus was searched and 24 knitted bags containing compressed ganja were seized.
The Hiace bus,as well as a Honda CRV, and a Toyota Altis motor car were seized, the police say.
