Destination: Thatch River Park
Toyota Jamaica 4×4 Club (TJAM4x4) had another successful outing on Sunday when it visited the amazing destination of Thatch Hill River Park in St Ann.
“It went very well based on the feedback and the fact that people didn’t want to leave the venue. In all, everyone had a good day,” Howard Foster, sales and marketing manager of Toyota Jamaica, told Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
The second event of the TJAM4x4 Club, the occasion brought out 28 vehicles with 86 people. The group assembled at Bog Walk, St Catherine, early Sunday morning to be told the final destination. Many expected a straightforward drive to Ocho Rios, but were instead given an adventurous route that took the convoy of Toyotas through the interior of the island, giving rise to some spectacular scenery while showing off a little seen area of Jamaica.
“I was told about Thatch Hill River Park by a Toyota customer. I choose the hard route to get to our destination. It took about three trips to sort everything out,” Foster explained.
The trek passed through locations like Devil’s Race Course, St Catherine, before crossing over the border deep into the hills of the parish of St Mary. The eventual descent took the group though Gayle to Labyrinth down into St Ann for the amazingly lush locale that was Thatch Hill River Park. While the drive wasn’t the toughest off-road trek, it was a challenge due to its length, thus a significant relief to all that the destination offered nothing but relaxation. Once settled in, food, drink and merriment were in abundance.
“Our next event will be on a date to be announced in August. We’re planning a two-day excursion so people can come and camp up for the night,” Foster said.
He added that the club will host its final event for 2018 in November.
