Jamaica’s Casserly to umpire at Davis Cup play-offs in Costa Rica
JAMAICA’S top tennis umpire Simon Casserly will be heading to Costa Rica to ply his trade.
He has been selected to officiate at the Davis Cup (Group Three, Americas Zone) play-offs to be held in the city of Escazu, Costa Rica, May 29-June 2.
Casserly, who is the only Caribbean official to be selected, is said to be brushing up on his Spanish in preparation for the assignment.
Ten countries — Jamaica, Costa Rica, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Bermuda, Cuba, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay and hosts Costa Rica — will be competing in the round robin event.
Casserly officiated at the recent Group Two tie in Barbados, and should relish his latest apppointment because the format of play ensures more matches.
It is said he is required to chair 25 professional matches each year in order to maintain his accreditation.
