Temporary traffic changes for Santa Cruz Bypass in St Elizabeth
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Effective tomorrow, the National Works Agency (NWA) will convert a section of the Santa Cruz Bypass in St Elizabeth in the vicinity of the Catholic Church into one-way thoroughfare.
Manager, communication and customer services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, said that the traffic change is being made in order to facilitate drainage improvement works along both sides of the roadway.
According to a release form NWA, the bypass leading towards the direction of Mandeville, will accommodate traffic heading from the direction of Lacovia between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm.
The reverse will obtain between 3:30 pm and 7:00 pm. Main Street, Santa Cruz will remain accessible to all motorists, as an alternate route, during the period of the closure, NWA said.
The agency disclosed that the drainage improvement project, started on Monday, is expected to last for six weeks.
The $9-million project includes the demolition of concrete structures; the laying of drainage pipes and the construction of a concrete U-drain. The work will positively impact the drainage challenges being experienced in the communities of Carmel, New River and Brighton.
The NWA is also advising motorists and pedestrians to obey all posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons during the construction works.
