Holland Saints, Lucea Flames to debut in WBA Elite League today
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Holland Saints and Lucea Flames will debut in the Western Basketball Association Elite League today when they meet at the Montego Bay Cricket Club starting at 6:15 pm.
The league got under way on Sunday and so far defending champions Granville Jaguars, Catherine Hall All-stars and Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights have all scored wins.
Granville Jaguars beat Sav Elite Titans 100-61 on Sunday after Catherine Hall got by Cornwall Court Chargers 80-62, while Knights were 67-50 winners over Inner-City Avalanche on Tuesday.
Leroy Lawrence and Tafari Vassell had double-doubles for Granville Jaguars in their big win with four players getting into double figures in scoring.
Lawrence scored 20 points and had 15 rebounds and Vassell scored 17 points and got 13 rebounds, while Dave Black scored 25 points and Levar Rose scored 12 points for Granville, who scored 72 points in the second half alone.
Troy Reid scored a game-high 28 points for Sav Elite Titans, as Chescardo Grant scored 17 points.
Catherine Hall got off to a fast start leading Cornwall Courts 22-10 after the first quarter and were up 37-29 at half-time, as five of the six players who suited up, scored in double digits.
Kurt Dorman scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Mikhail Smith scored 13 points and had 12 rebounds, and Jermaine Rerrie scored 10 points and had 15 rebounds, while Goyan Malcolm scored 16 points and Dwayne Johns added 10 points for All-Stars.
Franz McLennon with 21 points and Giovanni Bailey with 20 points combined for 41 of Cornwall Courts’ 62 points.
On Tuesday, Antonio Spence led all scorers with 19 points, 16 rebounds and four steals for Knights in their win, as Daniel Malcolm scored 15 points, Rayon Gardener had 11 points, and Omroy Kerr and Jhaun Bryan both scored 10 points.
Dovial Smith was the top scorer for Inner-City Avalanche as Clive Gentles scored 11 points.
