Popcaan Forever
Forever, Popcaan’s second album, is to be released this summer. While an official release date is yet to be revealed, Dre Skull of Mixpak Records is executive producer.
Mixpak Records is a Brooklyn, New York, company which has been around since 2009. The label also released Popcaan’s first album, Where We Come From, as well as Vybz Kartel’s 2011 album Kingston Story, which reached number seven on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart.
Body So Good is the first single from Forever. It was also produced by Dre Skull.
Popcaan has been on a tier in recent years. He won the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Artiste in 2016, and has been featured on a handful of songs that made the British pop chart, including It Should’ve Been Me by Naughty Boy and Kyla, I Know There’s Gonna Be Good Times by Jamie XX, and Aluna George’s I’m in Control.
He presently has the number one song in Jamaica with Family, produced by fellow dancehall artiste Delly Ranx.
Where We Come From was released by Mixpak Records in 2014. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart. Despite being a favourite among rappers and many hip hop fans, Popcaan has been unable to make a mark in North America as a solo act. His first hit song was Clarks a 2010 collaboration with Vanessa Bling and Vbyz Kartel, his mentor.
Among its hit songs were Everything is Nice, Addicted and Love Yuh Bad. Love Yuh Bad was sampled in rapper Drake’s hit single, Controlla.
