Legal Aid Council wants appropriate facilities for minors charged in death of Bog Walk student
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Legal Aid Council says it has requested that the minors charged following the death of Bog Walk High School student Kevaughn Barnes be placed in a facility suitable for minors.
The council said the request was made of the investigation officer in the matter.
It said the investigation will take place under the guidelines of the Child Care and Protection Act, which require minors to be detained or remanded in appropriate facilities for children.
According to reports, Kevaughn and a schoolmate were walking along the main thoroughfare in Bog Walk when they were accosted by a group of teenage boys from the community with whom they had a long-standing dispute.
It is alleged that one of the boys brandished a knife which he used to stab Kevaughn and the other teen.
Both were assisted to the Linstead Hospital where Kevaughn was pronounced dead and his schoolmate admitted for treatment.
Steps have also been taken by the council to identify other suspects/accused in the matter who are in need of legal representation.
