CDB buys electric car
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) last week unveiled an electric car which it has added to its transportation fleet.
The car, a Nissan Leaf Tekna purchased through Barbados-based company Megapower Ltd, produces zero emissions.
The move, the bank said, reflects its commitment to advancing a clean energy agenda in the region since operation of the car will reduce the organisation’s carbon footprint while it transports representatives and packages across the island.
CDB adopted an energy sector policy and strategy in 2015, which set out its approach for tackling the region’s energy challenges, including emphasising energy security and access; prioritising renewable energy and energy efficiency; and promoting a holistic approach to energy sector transformation.
Energy security is, therefore, integrated throughout its work — both within the organisation and throughout its Borrowing Member Countries, under the CDB 2015-2019 Strategic Plan.
