CPA secretary general to visit Jamaica this week
SECRETARY General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Akbar Khan, will pay a visit to Jamaica from May 16 to May 20, 2018.
The secretary general will on Friday, May 18 lead a CPA Roadshow, aimed at sensitising youth about good governance and the importance of parliamentary democracy, as well as the role of the CPA in promoting these values throughout the Commonwealth.
The CPA, which is made up of 180 national and regional legislatures, develops, promotes and supports parliamentarians and parliamentary staff to identify benchmarks of good governance and to promote the values of the Commonwealth.
The Jamaican Parliament actively participates in CPA activities and currently is the seat of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s Regional Secretariat.
Khan, who is of Caribbean heritage, has been secretary general of the CPA since January 2016.
